Set Up 2 Step Verification in Gmail
Gmail by Google is one of the most secure and easiest ways to send and receive Emails from the computer, Mobile Phones and Tablets. The Gmail team at Google is constantly providing with the new methods to secure your account even more. Recently, the 2 Step verification in Gmail provides a great way to secure your Google account. In the first step, you can add your mobile number to Gmail account that will verify the mobile number. However, the second step will let you add the trusted computer in the list. Overall, it will add more security to your Google account.Apart from the pros of using the 2 Step Verification in Gmail, it has some disadvantages as well. To use the third-party applications such mail, YouTube or Google Documents, you cannot use the older password. However, you will have to create a password using app password service provided by this 2 step verification. - An Active Gmail account with username and Password
- An Active Mobile Number to verify the Gmail account
How to Set up 2 Step Verification in Gmail?
Click on this link to navigate to the 2 step verification Page in your web browser.
On the main page, Click on the Start Setup at the bottom right side of the page.
Login to your Gmail account with the login credentials; Email address and password and click on Sign in button.
Now, you will have to add active mobile number here. Carefully, select this number because your account will depend on it. Write down the number in blank field and Click on Send Code
As soon as you hit the send code, a code will be sent to your mobile number. It may take a few seconds to receive the code, once you have received it, right it on the next page and click on Verify
This is the second step to verification; you can add your current computer to the trust list. However, if you are using this on a public computer such as in library or Internet café, we will not recommend it to add in your trusting computer. Click on Next to proceed.
This is the last step to confirm the 2 step verification in Gmail account. Click on Confirm to enable it.
The next step is only for those users who are using Mail, YouTube or any other application on their iPhones, iPads or Blackberry devices. If you don’t use this account on any device, click on Do this later, otherwise, click on the Reconnect My Apps to keep using your Google account on these devices.
You can’t use your previous password for different applications, so, you will have to create a new password for any application that you use on your Mobile Phone, or Tablets. First select the app for which you want to create a password and then choose your Phone. Once you have selected the both things, click on Generate to get the new password that will be used with the apps on your iPhone or iPad.
This new password will be shown on the screen, Click on Done to save the settings.
Pro-Tips:
- Don’t use the 2 step verification on a public computer, always use it on a private computer such as your personal laptop or desktop.
- Write down the generated password on a piece of paper, so, you can use it for the later purposes.
- If you have generated a password in the password but don’t own that phone, you can revoke the access from this app password list.
- If you don’t want to use the 2 step verification, you can disable by navigating to this page. Click on Turn off in the right side of the screen.
